Halloween is Coming: Let's Party!
We love Halloween because it’s the perfect combination of fun and spooky, bringing out the creativity in all of us. It presents opportunities to show off your crafty side, too! Are you hosting trick-or-treaters after school this year? Or throwing a teen “too cool to trick-or-treat” party? Are you a classroom parent in need of ideas for the school Halloween parade and party? Let us help you with the planning! We’ve got some great ideas to get you started!
Now let’s fill their bellies
It’s tough to get young trick-or-treaters excited about anything beyond candy on Halloween. In fact, It might feel downright impossible! But if your house is Halloween home base this year, having some filling, savory offerings prepared ahead of time means your monsters will less likely to roam the streets hungry. Think simple to make, slow-cooker meals that you can keep warm for the duration of the evening. Think portable, too, if you can: items that adults can grab and go while supervising the guys and ghouls. Have you tried our slow-cooker pulled pork recipe? Try it with our new artisan breads or our classic egg roll.
Other easy go-to options include slow-cooker chili, our tortellini with Italian sausage and spinach (from the grab-and-go case at the café), or even a good hearty soup, (like minestrone or beef and barley). You want something easy for you, warming for them, and something that isn’t too fussy!
Finally, let’s get creative!
Halloween is a great time to flex your creative muscles. We found some great projects that are easy, fun and , make great family projects. Check it out!:
Bat Cone party bags: If you are hosting the classroom Halloween party, this may be the craft for you! All you need is the pattern (a free download), black construction paper, scissors, glue and ribbon!
Little Yarn Witch Brooms: Perfect for a party activity, either in the classroom or at home. You need yarn, pipe cleaners and scissors. This would be fun to do after decorating sugar cookies (or while eating them!) and takes only a little bit of space and not a lot of time.
Mummy Candy Cans: This project is slightly more involved but make for an awesome party favor! You can probably modify by painting the cans instead of spray-painting them. Perfect for kids who are too old or too cool for trick-or-treating.
A Gourd Family: This makes a great outside decoration (or even an indoor centerpiece with the right-sized pumpkins). This craft doesn’t take a lot of material or time to make, but will certainly make a great impression! This is a fantastic alternative to carving if you want to avoid the mess!
We’d love to be part of your Halloween festivities this year! Stop by the bakery and café to sample our seasonal offerings.
