DAVID WHITE, CIRCA 1980's

daw1980.jpg

With a love for food, working with his hands, and an inability to sleep late or sit still, David White opened his first bakery in 1980 after moving to Marco Island, FL.  He had no formal culinary or baking education, just a few years of experience at a local Massachusetts bakery in his early 20’s which ignited his passion for baking and solidified an idea – David wanted to work for himself.

After moving back to Massachusetts with his family, David opened White’s Pastry Shop in 1987.  It was a small shop in Easton, MA with a modest menu of tried-and-true recipes.  Baking bread, muffins, cookies and cakes from scratch, he built a reputation for great food and excellence in service. Two short years later, he relocated the shop to Brockton and opened the flagship Pearl Street location.

It didn’t take long before our growth gave us an opportunity to expand. The next 10-15 years of our business were spent upgrading from a small storefront to our current 25,000 square foot retail and production space. That expansion has enabled us to produce over 200 fresh bakery items, from breads and muffins to cupcakes and cookies, on a daily basis, and a few hundred custom cakes a week.

We opened our second location on Derby Street in Hingham back in 1997. White’s was the oldest existing tenant in operation at the Derby Street Shops, until we closed in August of 2021. In the early 2000's we opened up shops in Braintree and Canton, which were eventually sold.

In the late 2000’s David started making more savory food items to sell in Brockton (calzones, pastas, tarts, dinners) so we added a kitchen and a small deli showcase. Shortly after, the idea of White’s Café was born.  We now have a loyal crowd who come in daily for our delicious sandwiches, salads, dinners-to-go, and more!

2012 brought the expansion and renovation of our Brockton location which bolstered our capabilities tremendously.  The store front got a makeover and we changed our name to White's Bakery & Café.

In March of 2014 we opened our Mansfield shop on School Street, which continues to gain popularity year after year.

Our growth would not have been possible without the loyalty and passion of our staff, some of whom have worked alongside shop owner David White for well over 25 years. We are fortunate and honored to have such amazing and dedicated members of the White’s Bakery team.

After over 40 years as a professional baker and shop owner, David continues to work seven days a week, and shows no sign of slowing down. White’s is a family affair: David works closely with his 2 sons each and every day. The love of family is what makes White’s Bakery and Cafe what it is.

We are proud to serve our community and feel grateful for our loyal customers who have made White's part of their family traditions.
